JAMMU, July 12: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Viklang Chhatra Trust regarding non-functioning of Sarai for attendants of patients visiting Government Medical College Jammu, Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir and Justice Tashi Rabstan has directed the Divisional Commissioner to constitute a committee to ascertain whether all the facilities were available in the Sarai.
While taking-up the Public Interest Litigation for final disposal, the DB observed, “right from January 29, 2004 various orders have been passed by the Court. The respondents have also filed status report and taken steps to construct the Sarai for the attendants of the patients of GMC Jammu and its Associated Hospitals namely SMGS Hospital, CD Hospital and Psychiatric Hospital”.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocates Sumit Nayyar and Mohsin Bhatt appearing for the PIL whereas AAG HA Siddiqui and Deputy AG Neeru Goswami for the State respondents, Division Bench directed Divisional Commissioner to constitute a committee consisting of heads of Health Department, Red Cross Society, Social Welfare Department and some respectable senior citizens of Jammu city in order to ascertain as to whether all the facilities are available in the Sarai and whether the attendants of the patients are comfortable or not”.
“In case the committee makes any recommendation, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu should act upon the same and pass appropriate orders”, the DB said and even directed Divisional Commissioner to report compliance on monthly basis before this Court.
