KATRA, Oct 12: International wrestler Monu from Chhatrasal Stadium Delhi lifted 16th Mission Dosti International Indian style Kushti (Dangal) by defeating another international wrestler Krishan of Haryana in the last 20 minutes, being organised at SMVDSB Sports Stadium, here today.
The mega Navratra festival Dangal event was organised by Katra Indian Style Wrestling Association under the overall supervision of Shiv Kumar Sharma (Chairman) along with others office bearers of the Association in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, J&K Tourism, Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board and District Administration.
About 23 bouts were played during the day-long Dangal including two women bouts which were conducted by Sohan Singh and Pappu Lakri.
Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer SMVDSB was the chief guest who distributed the cash prizes among the winners and runner-up wrestlers, whereas Charandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, former MoS Pawan Gupta, former MoS Ajay Nanda, former MLA RS Pathania, Abhishek SDM Katra, Preeti Khajuria, CEO Municipality and CEO KDA, Amit Bhasin SP Katra and Gourav Sachdeva, general secretary Indian Style Wrestling Association of India were the guests of honour.
The winner was awarded with Rs 1.25 lacs along with traditional Gurj (Gadda) and Patta by the chief guest while runner-up wrestler Krishan got Rs. 0.75 lakh. The 2nd malli bout was won by Jaspuran from Mullapur by defeated Benia Min of J&K Police, whereas 3rd bout was won by Abdul Gani from Mallerkotla (Punjab) by trouncing Sumit from BSP and 4th bout was won by Akash of Delhi defeating Shota Gani from Hoshiarpur. The 5th bout was won by Nisar of Doda and 6th bout was clinched by Parkash from Maharashtra.
Pappu Lakri, Sohan Singh Thakur, Ram Paul Sharma, Babu Ram Sharma, Parbhat Singh and Ranjeet Singh were among technical officials of Dangal.
Shiv Kumar Sharma thanked the SMVDSB for sanctioning assistance of Rs 2 lakh and all other facilities for the smooth conduct of the wrestling event. He also thanked DC Reasi for providing financial assistance for Dangal.
