41 trekkers flagged off for J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme

JAMMU, June 3: Member Legislative Council, Jugal Kishore Sharma flagged off the first batch of 41 students and 2 teachers of Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal Jammu for J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme from Sehgal Hall, Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Anil Kumar, a national climber is the group leader, while the teachers Tejinder Singh and Vinod Sharma are also accompanying the group.
The 3-day programme is being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K in the beautiful Moungri area of Udhampur district, north of the Trikuta hills.
With the base camp at Youth Hostel Moungri, the budding trekkers shall trek 5 kms, to and fro, to the sacred Shiv Parvati cave on the first day of the trek, while on the next day they shall trek 8 kms, to and fro, through calm and cool pines to reach an elegant undulating meadow which commands a panoramic view of the Pir Panjal range. On the third and the concluding day, the trekkers shall be imparted training in the art of rock climbing. The trekkers shall also have interactions with the local people to learn about culture and fauna and flora of the area.
Earlier, while addressing the trekkers Jugal Kishore Sharma appreciated the role of Tawi Trekkers J&K in popularizing trekking in the State and promised to raise the necessary trekking infrastructure at suitable places to give further impetus to this discipline.
Earlier, Ram Khajuria, General Secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K welcomed the guests and highlighted the major achievements of the club during the last 30 years.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included SS Jamwal, President of the Club, Sureshta Khajuria, Principal Shangrilla Public School, Jammu, Sukhdev Singh, District Youth Sports Officer, Udhampur; Rahul Sharma, Director Sprawling Buds School, Jammu, Rajesh Mukhi, Amit Khajuria, Navneet Gupta and Mrigank Kaushal.
