KATHUA/Reasi, Oct 17: 13th Kathua District Fencing Championship concluded at Mother Teresa Khelo India Fencing Club Dharmani Billawar, here today.
The event was organised by Kathua District Fencing Association under the aegis of Adhoc Committee, J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, Department of Youth Service and Sports.
About 110 fencers from different Colleges, Schools and Clubs of the District participated and 46 medals were distributed among the winning fencers.
Ruchi Sharma and Nikhil Spolia were adjudged as best female and male fencers respectively, whereas Mayank Sharma National medallist was awarded player of the championship.
The bouts were officiated by international Sabre Fencing coach Shotu Lal Sharma. Naresh Vara Naib Tehsildar was the chief guest and Rajinder Sharma SHO was the guest of honour on this occasion, whereas the championship was managed by Dr Yash Paul president, Charan Dass vice president, Lal Chand general secretary, Sanjeev Sharma organising secretary, Makhan Sharma treasure and Kaka Ram joint secretary.
Meanwhile, 3-day 15th Reasi District Open Fencing Championship-2021, organized by Reasi District Fencing Association under the aegis of Ad-hoc Committee, J&K Amateur Fencing Association, concluded here at J&K Sports Council’s Multipurpose Hall Mari, today.
At the closing ceremony, Amit Sharma, Ashok Kumar Bali and Varun Sharma (Councillors), Kewal Krishan (Assistant Professor) and Rakesh Kumar (Physical Director) were among the special guests who distributed prizes among the winners.
The final bouts were officiated by Gaurav Verma, Nazakat Hussain, Dhruva Gupta and Kapish Bali.
In senior epee boys, Sohit Thakur and Ajay Kumar won gold and silver medals respectively, while Parvinder Sharma and Kamal Kumar shared bronze medal, whereas in senior epee girls, Archana Devi and Riya Manhas bagged top two positions, while AditikaSalmat and Shaheen Akhtar jointly clinched 3rd place and in senior sabre boys, Ajay Singh won gold, Vikas Kumar clinched silver and bronze medal was shared by Ashutosh Sharma and Rahul Sharma, besides in senior foil boys, Gourav Thakur and Bhawani Thakur secured top two positions and 3rd position was shared by Parshant Chib and Rohit Panjgotra, while senior sabre girls, two top places were bagged by Simran Rajput & Roshni Devi, while Simran Sajgotra and Sonia Akhter won jointly 3rd place and in under 20 epee boys, Sohit Thakur secured gold, Ajay Kumar clinched silver and Rohit Thakur and Harsh Singh shared bronze medal.
Sohit Thakur was declared as the best fencers of the championship for winning three gold medals while Pranav Thakur won the award of emerging fencer of the district.
