JAMMU, Oct 18:  Outstanding athlete, Abrar Choudhary brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir by winning Gold medal in 400 meter with the record timing clocked 48.56 seconds in the 3rd Open National Athletics Championship, held at JawaharLal Nehru Stadium New Delhi from October 11 to 12.
“Winning Gold medal in the National championship that too in record timing is really a matter of great pleasure and pride for the Athletic Association of J&K,” said Suneel Mahajan president J&K Athletics Association.
He further said that earlier this year, Abrar won the Under-20 400m race with a timing of 49.8 seconds, while in the North Zone Junior Athletics Championships which was held at Meerut, he also bagged the silver medal in 200m and was a finalist in the Junior National Championships held at Guwahati.
This is the first time that an athlete from J&K has won Gold in the National Championship, that too with the lack of basic requisite infrastructure in the UT, said Mahajan.
