Former Chief Justice of GB Rana Shamim was vice prez of PML-N lawyers wing: Son

ISLAMABAD, Nov 17: Ahmed Hasan Rana, the son of former chief judge of the Gilgit Baltistan Rana Shamim, has said his father was the vice president of PML-N Sindh lawyers wing.
Speaking during a ARY News programme, Rana said his father’s affiliation with the PML-N was known by everyone.
He further said he is yet to read through the whole statement on oath sybmitted by his father.
Rana is also a counsel of his father in the contempt of court case at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
On Monday, Pakistan’s former federal minister and senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda has demanded flogging and hanging in public of former chief justice of Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim over his remarks on former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.
Speaking at a private TV show, Vawda said, ?We have suffered a lot. The judges’ tremble while giving a verdict against hardcore criminals, but freely pass remarks and statements. The nation has witnessed this in Peshawar where scores of hardcore criminals were released.?
Defending his remarks on flogging of judges, the minister said the judges maligning courts and judiciary should be flogged in public as they were maligning the noble and honest judges and dragging the country towards anarchy, The News International reported.
He also called Shamim ?as absconder for filing an affidavit in London after retirement.”
?If a common thief is disgraced and criticized, then a judge who scandalises the judiciary and honest judges cannot be awarded for it,” he said.
The PTI leader further said that the ex-CJ of Gilgit-Baltistan is ?is acting like a pimp.”
Earlier, former chief judge of apex court of Gilgit-Baltistan Rana M Shamim said he was a witness to former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar’s order to a high court judge to not release Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz on bail at any cost before 2018 general elections.
According to the affidavit of Shamim, ?Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif must remain in jail until the general elections are over. On assurances from the other side, he (Saqib Nisar) became calm and happily demanded another cup of tea.”
The document stated that the ex-GB chief judge’s statement was given under oath before the Oath Commissioner on November 10.
Both Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case before the July 25, 2018 general elections.
According to The News International, their lawyers had moved court for suspension of the conviction but the case after initial hearings was postponed till last week of July.
However, former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has denied he had ever issued directions to any of his subordinate judges in any judicial order, including Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz.
The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday issued show-cause notices to to all parties of the case on allegations against ex-CJP Saqib Nisar by former chief justice of Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim.
According to a report by Geo TV, the IHC had summoned Shamim, editor-in-chief of The News, editor of the newspaper and journalist Ansar Abbasi today (Tuesday), however, Shamin wasn’t present in court.
Meanwhile, Aamir Ghauri, the editor-in-chief of Jang Group and editor of The News, and he News editor investigation Ansar Abbasi appeared in court.
During the hearing, Shamim’s son requested the court staff for permission to play a video in the courtroom, but it was denied, Geo TV reported.
