JAMMU, Nov 25: Casual labourers and daily wagers of various departments held strong protest near Press Club of Jammu today.
A large number of daily wage and casual workers from PHE and other Departments assembled in front of the Press Club near Dogra Chowk here today and launched protest demonstration followed by dharna. The protesting workers were carrying banners and placards projecting their issues.
They also shouted slogans in support of their demands and against the Government. Several senior leaders and trade unionists addressed the gathering and criticized the previous Governments and LG administration for not resolving the issue of 60,000 daily rated/ casual workers of various departments in J&K.
They alleged that despite assurances by the leaders and senior officers nothing was done to settle their issue. They also demanded implementation of Minimum Wages Act in J&K as per Central norms, payment of regular wages to the casual labours and daily rated/ CP workers and regularization of all the temporary/ casual/ daily rated workers.
After holding protest for over two hours they dispersed. They warned the LG administration to resolve their issue, otherwise they will be compelled to intensify their agitation.
