JAMMU, Dec 2: 17th Jammu District Fencing Championship, organised by Adhoc Committee of J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council, commenced at Indoor Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
Dr Zaffar Iqbal, Chief Accounts Officer of J&K Sports Council was the chief guest on the opening ceremony, while Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer was the guest of honour and Satish Gupta, Manager Indoor Hall, MA Stadium Jammu was the special guest on the occasion.
Convener of the Adhoc Committee, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary along with Shotu Lal Sharma (Member Adhoc Committee), Vikram Singh Jamwal (Lieutenant Colonel), Rachna Jamwal (Fencing Coach), Advocate Supriya Chouhan (Member Committee) and Maninder Pal Singh (Member Committee) were also present during the event.
More than 200 fencers from different Clubs, Centres and Institutions are participating in the three days championship under the age group of under-12, 14, 17 &19 and senior age groups.
Pritam Singh Slathia, (NIS qualified coach) is the Competition Director for the championship, while the bouts were officiated by Ajay Khartol, Anthony Mattoo, Suniya Arora, Shivani Hans, Mokshi Sharma, Ranchan Sabarwal, Tony Mattoo, Javed Ahmed Choudhary, Richa Sabarwal and Ujjwal Gupta.
In under- 12 boys foil individual, Raghav Choudhary (M.A Stadium) and Udyan (JUA) won gold and silver medals respectively, while Satvik Sharma (MA Stadium) and Aakanksh Kashyap (JKMFC) shared bronze medal, whereas in epee individual, Girish Choudhary (MA Stadium) and Prabav Verma (JKMFC) clinched top two medals, while Aman and Tanmay Dogra of MA Stadium shared bronze medal and in under girls foil individual, Nandni Devi (JKMFC), Sharoon Rose Marqus (JUA) and Devanshi Mathur (JKMFC) clinched top three medals respectively.
In under-14 boy’s epee individual, Saaid-Ur-Rehman and Ranvir Jamwal of MA Stadium secured gold and silver, while Udhey Veer Singh (JKMFC) and Samrat Chib shared bronze medal, whereas in sabre individual, Pratyaksh Gupta (JKMFC) and Atharv Gupta (MA Stadium) bagged gold and silver respectively, while Devansh Sharma (JKMFC) and Prajwal Puri (JKMFC) jointly clinched bronze medal.
In under-14 girls foil individual, Vanya Gupta (MA Stadium) and Tejasvi Tagotra (JKMFC) won gold and silver, while Mayra Rajput and Samiksha Jamwal of (MA Stadium) shared bronze medal, whereas in under-20 boys foil individual, Poorvak Suri (MA Stadium), Gulshan Mehra (JUA) clinched gold and silver, while Surya Partap and Dhruv Mahajan of MA Stadium shared bronze medal.
