Saifco Lions clinches thriller against Jumbo Gladiators

JAMMU, July 27: Saifco Lions defeated Jumbo Gladiators in an exciting contest by 4 wickets in a low scoring game to make it four wins out of five games played so far and consolidate their position in the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Corporate Premier League (JKCPL) at MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, Jumbo Gladiators skipper Ramdayal won the toss and elected to bat first on what was thought to be a batting friendly strip. Batting first, the whole side bundled out for a paltry total of 100 runs in 18.5 overs. Parveen Singh was the top scorer with 32 runs off 35 balls with 4 fours and one six, while Sandeep Raj contributed 24 runs off 32 deliveries including 2 boundaries. None of the other batsmen could manage to reach the double figure mark. For Saifco Lions, Umar Alam bagged 3 wickets, while Ajaz Dar claimed 2 wickets. Rohit Sharma, Suhail Andleep and Mehraj claimed one wicket apiece.
Saifco Lions, in reply reached the target in a close contest in 19.2 overs. Majid played a power-packed innings of 35 runs off just 20 balls, studded with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Ajaz Dar and skipper Fayaz Hazari contributed valuable 17 and 14 runs to the total respectively.
For Jumbo Gladiators, Raman Dutta was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets, while Kuldeep Kumar, Sadeep Raj and Soumay Jain claimed one wicket apiece.
Umar Alam of Saifco Lions was adjudged HDFC man of the match, while Majid got the TCI Maximum Sixes Award. The awards were given to them by IGP Jammu, Rajesh Kumar as chief guest and DIG Jammu Kathua Range, Shakeel Ahmed Beigh as the guest of honour. Owners of Saifco Lions and Jumbo Gladiators were also present on the occasion.
The match was officiated by BCCI panel umpires Amit Bansal and Sudhir Singh, while Dheeraj and Mohsin acted as scorers. SK Bansal was the match referee.
In the tomorrow’s fixture, TCI Cheetahs will take on Surya Risers at 2 pm at the same venue.
