Two labourers killed, 8 hurt in building collapse

JAMMU, July 29: Two labourers were killed and eight others injured when roof-top of an under-construction portion of double storied banquet hall “Kangra Fort” collapsed in Upper Barnai area, falling under the jurisdiction of Domana Police Station this evening.
As per reports, some labourers were engaged in new under construction portion of “Kangra Fort” in Upper Barnai area, when the roof-top of building suddenly collapsed. In the incident, the labourers engaged in the construction work got trapped under the debris.
On getting information, locals and police party from Domana Police Station led by SDPO Sandeep Mehta and SHO Arvind Sambyal rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
All the labourers were evacuated and shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors declared two labourers as brought dead.
One of the deceased has been identified as Major, a resident of village Thathi, tehsil Akhnoor, while the identification of the second labourer is yet to be ascertained. The condition of 8 others, who were injured in the incident was stated to be stable, when last reports came in.
The body of one of the identified labourer has been handed over to family members for last rites after completion of legal formalities, while the body of the second has been kept in the mortuary of the hospital for identification.
The injured have been identified as Munna of Bilaspur, Dev Raj of Bale Bagh, Akhnoor, Sohan Lal, Bhuveshwar, Mool Chand, Deepak Kumar, all residents of Chattisgarh, presently living in Machine Domana, Gopal Dass of Akhnoor and Hira Lal of Sattarpur, Madhya Pradesh.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Domana Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner General (ACG) Shehnaz Akhtar visited Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and enquired about the condition of the injured.
On behalf of Indian Red Cross Society, she announced Rs 20,000 to the family members of the deceased, Rs 10,000 to the seriously injured, Rs 5,000 to the labourer who suffered fracture in his leg and Rs 2,000 each to other injured.
