GMC’s Urology Deptt performs Neobladder for 1st time

JAMMU, Dec 18: In a new beginning, Department of Urology super speciality hospital GMC Jammu today achieved a rare feet of performing a NEOBLADDER on a 45 years old male patient.
This is a complex procedure which is done in bladder cancer patients werein their natural urinary bladder is removed and a new urinary bladder is constructed from intestines. With this the patient is disease free and also can pass urine through his natural orifice that is urethra.
Though radical removal of urinary bladder was being performed routinely by laparoscopy but the reconstruction of this new bladder laparoscopically was carried out for the first time.
The surgery was performed by Dr Rahul Gupta Associate Professor in Department of Urology and was ably helped by his team which included Dr Ajay Anand, Associate Professor, Dr Suhail Masood and Dr Ankush.
Anesthesia team was led by Dr Ashwani Kumar and Dr Amit Manhas.
Theatre Assistants Arti, held the camera for the entire procedure which lasted for 7 odd hours. Other including Neha, Shilpa, Rachna, Meenu along with Dev, Manjit, Sarbjyot and Narinder helped so that this procedure could go off seamlessly.
