VP, Union Ministers, others pay tribute to ex-PM Shastri

NEW DELHI, Jan 11:
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Ministers and other leaders on Tuesday paid tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 56th death anniversary.
In a series of tweets, the VP said, “Remembering former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji on his Punya Tithi today. Shastri Ji was a man of great integrity and wisdom, whose clarion call of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, continues to resonate in our collective consciousness.”
“His exemplary leadership led to the all-around growth of the nation. The best tribute we can pay to him is by emulating the ideals for which he lived,” he said.
Recalling the former PM’s contribution, Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a tweet said Shastri had instilled a sense of unity from soldiers to farmers and safeguarded the country with his determined leadership during a challenging time.
“He set an example of how public service can be done. My salute to such a great patriot,” Shah said. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in a tweet said, “Former PM, Bharat Ratna, Lal Bahadur Shastri was a beloved leader who exemplified humility in public service. His clarion call of #JaiJawanJaiKisan galvanised the nation in a crucial period. Humble tributes to the icon on his death anniversary.”

Taking to twitter, BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda said, “Bharat Ratna Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji devoted his life for the welfare of the farmers and service of the country. Tributes to former PM Shastri ji on his death anniversary.”
On the occasion, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi while sharing a popular quote (True democracy or the swaraj of the masses can never come through untruthful and violent means) of the former PM said, “My humble tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri ji.” (UNI)
