Paras Dogra slams ton, Pondicherry scores 309/6 against J&K on Day-1

JAMMU, Feb 17: Magnificent century by veteran middle-order batsman Paras Dogra coupled with sedate but composed half-century by wicketkeeper batsman S Karthik, guided Pondicherry to a respectable score of 309/6 at stumps on Day-1 of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-B match against J&K at SSN College ground, Chennai today.
Fabid Ahmed (32) and Sagar V Trivedi (16) were at the crease at the draw of stumps.
Earlier, put into bat by J&K skipper Ian Dev Singh, Pondicherry openers- promising Neyan Kangayan and Aravind K began cautiously and confidently, before J&K’s pace sensation Umran Malik struck twice to get rid of young Kangayan at his individual score of 16 runs and Aravind at 26 runs and the team’s total of 53/2 in 16.3 overs. Then Parvez Rasool and Abdul Samad sent back Pavan Deshpande (7) and skipper Rohit D (15) respectively when the score was 97/4 in 33 overs.
A big partnership of 152 runs between Paras Dogra and S Karthik helped the team to score 309 runs in 90 overs. The veteran of many battles Paras Dogra scored 108 runs off 187 deliveries, studded with 12 fours and 2 sixes, while Karthik contributed 63 runs off 131 balls, with the help 5 boundaries.
For J&K, Umran took 3 wickets by conceding 79 runs in his 49 overs, while spinners Abid Mushtaq, Parvez Rasool and Abdul Samad claimed one wicket each.
