Anantnag, Feb 18: Local sportsmen have demanded that an abandoned school building in the corner of a playground in Latroo zone in the Aishmuqam region in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district be removed as soon as possible since it is impeding sports activity.
Scores of youngsters from the region told the Excelsior that Middle School Latroo, which used to be located in the building, has long been relocated and that the structure has been vacant for a long time. “The structure is in shambles and no longer serves any purpose. The structure is impeding sports activities and discouraging youngsters from playing on the field,” Mir Azhar, a local sports ethicist said.
He said that the youth from at least 20 villages are dependent on the ground, and the removal of the building is vital for the extension of the sports field.
Locals said that officials who visited the site determined that the building’s position had made the playground shabby and suggested that it be relocated to a more suitable location.
Tehsildar Pahalgam, Mohamamd Hussain, said that the structure has become a public nuisance and should be dismantled. “I also visited the location and believe the structure is now useless. Locals, on the other hand, have not approached me about the problem. Once locals bring me a written complaint, I will take up the issue with the concerned officials,” he stated.
