JAMMU, Feb 21: University of Jammu is all set to host the week long Science Festival under the pan India programme `Vigyan Sarvatre Pujyate’ from tomorrow.
In addition to displaying India’s scientific heritage and prowess, the programme will showcase the scientific and innovative solution being offered in the field of Defence, Space, Agriculture, Health, Astronomy, environment etc.
“It is a matter of great pride that University of Jammu has been identified as one of the 75 venues for the organization of this pan India programme under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” said JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar, while talking to media persons during a press conference on the eve of mega event, here today. Accompanied by Prof Rajni Kant, Convenor of the Vigyan Sarvatre Pujyate programme and Dean Faculty of Sciences, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his satisfaction over the kind of arrangements made by the local organizing committee and other associated committees of the university to manage participation of the students from different schools and institutes of higher learning of Jammu province.
While detailing the programme, Prof Rajni Kant informed that over 1700 delegates have already been registered for this 7-day long event and a sizable number of students have also given their preference for participation in theme-based competitions as identified by Vigyan Prasar.
The mega event will begin with formal inauguration at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium where the inaugural function happening at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi shall also be live streamed. The valedictory function at New Delhi on February 28 will also be live streamed.
Day 2 of the event shall be devoted to an Expert Lecture covering the `Milestones in the History of Science in Indian Context’, which shall be followed by screening of some video films highlighting the contribution of Indian Scientists in taking the country from the centuries old discoveries to the present times.
Day- 3 of the event will focus on key discoveries, including the struggle of Indian and global scientists in finding a solution to counter the Corona virus. It will be followed by another scientific lecture on `Next Generation Agriculture while Day- 4 will have two presentations, one from Prof M K Dhar covering the challenges and opportunities in Science & Technology for the 21st century.
Day-5 is completely devoted to Science Literature Festival offering a platform to local poets, writers, thinkers, theatre artists to exhibit their talent and communicate science in local languages while Day-6 will have two useful presentations, one by Chief Scientist of IISER Bhopal and another by Prof Rajni Kant, Dean Faculty of Science, who will highlight the past, present and future of Radiation Physics and its applications.
Book exhibition and a state of the art exhibition of posters are also being organized from February 23-27 for the benefit of students coming from secondary schools to college and university level.
Besides JU Spokesperson, Dr Vinay Thusoo, the press meet was also attended by Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies; Prof Seema Langer, Dean Life Sciences; Prof Jasbir Singh, Controller of Examination; Prof Rahul Gupta, Dean Faculty of Mathematics and Er Anik Gupta, Director IT.
