JAMMU, Feb 21: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Regional Office J&K today hosted a unique classical music concert of local flavour ‘Swaragini’ by Dr. Mukteshi Sharma under a special campaign ‘Kala Vishwa’ under ‘Horizon Series’ at K.L Sehgal Auditorium.
A big gathering of music lovers witnessed the show with zeal.
The cultural programme began with lighting of lamp by the chief guest, Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and special guest of honour, Dr. Arvind Singh Aman, Addl. Secy JKAACL and other dignitaries.
Thereafter, the artists and the chief guest were felicitated by Regional Director, ICCR Jammu.
Welcoming the guests, N.K Shil, Regional Director, ICCR and Regional Passport Officer Jammu talked about how ICCR, a cultural wing of MEA aims to enhance India’s soft diplomatic power worldwide and boost India’s skills of cultural diplomacy as well as to bring people of the country and world together through cultural and educational initiatives/exchanges.
He urged the youth of the country to take inspiration from the martyrs who laid down their lives for freedom struggle and achievers, move forward and work together to be a stakeholder in the journey of making India self-reliant.
Today’s performance began with Raag Madhuvanti. It reached crescendo when she beautifully sang Vilambhit Khaya. Those who accompanied the artist were Ashutosh Mangotra (Harmonium) and Neeraj Verma (Tabla).
Another striking feature of the programme was the versatile anchoring by Rajni.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar complimented the efforts of ICCR in promoting communal harmony and preserving the ethnically rich composite culture of J&K and harnessing the local talent.
Prominent among those who attended the function were Dr. Vijay Atreyo, Advocate Sandeep Gupta, renowned artist Dharmesh Magotra, ICCR scholars and others. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arvind Aman.
