JAMMU, Mar 2: Hari Market Police arrested a thief and his associate along with stolen gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 7 lakhs.
This was informed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli here today.
Giving details, SSP Jammu said that a written complaint was lodged at Police Post Hari Market that some thieves have stolen gold and silver ornaments from the jewellery shop of a person namely Rajinder Kapoor, son of Shiv Ram Kapoor of Sarwal, District Jammu.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 07/2022 under Sections 380 and 457 IPC was registered at Police Station City Jammu and investigation started.
SSP Jammu further added that a team led by SHO Police Station City led by SHO Inspector Vijay Kumar and assisted by Incharge Police Post Hari Market PSI Ravi Kumar was constituted under the supervision of SDPO North Sharad Kalu and SP North Kulbir Handa.
The team did strenuous efforts and after connecting various leads rounded up a suspect namely Shafadul Islam, son of Mohammad Furkan of Nikund Vihar, West Bengal, at present Gujjar Nagar, District Jammu.
During sustained questioning, the accused confessed his involvement in the case and on his disclosure 8 kilograms silver ornaments and 18 grams gold ornaments worth Rs 7 lakhs were recovered, SSP said, adding that on further questioning accused revealed name of his one more accomplice namely Amir Suhail, son of Sekander Ali Sheikh of Village Patul District Hooghly, West Bengal, at present Jamawant Gufa, Peerkho, who was also arrested due to timely human intervention.
Further questioning of the arrested persons is going on to ascertain their involvement in other theft cases, SSP Chandan Kohli informed.
