KATRA, Mar 3: Delhi wrestler Deepak Kakran lifted the title of Shiv Khori Kesari, organised at Ransoo, here today.
The Dangal was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with J&K Tourism Department, District Administration, Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board and Shiv Khori Dangal Committee under the supervision of president of the Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, DDC Member Kewal Krishan Sharma and Sarpanch Bhagwan Singh.
Former MinisterAjay Nanda was the chief guest on the occasion, while the event was presided over by the Shiv Kumar Sharma, president of the Association and Naib Tehsildar Ransoo Baldev Raj, Inspector PS Ransoo, Kamalpreet, Inspector 126 Bn, CRPF Virender Kumar and Inspector PS Pouni, Vijay Sharma were the guests of honour.
Shiv Kumar Sharma thanked Director Tourism Jammu, Vivekanand Rai, Deputy Commissioner Reasi Babila Rakwal and Sanjay Sahni of Delhi for making the event successful.
About 38 bouts were played during the Dangal in which local wrestlers and wrestlers from Delhi and Punjab participated. Wrestler Deepak Kakran of Guru Hanuman Akhara Delhi was declared winner and awarded with cash prize Rs, 12000 along with traditional “Gurj and Patta”, while runner-up wrestler Rashid of Domana Akhara Jammu awarded cash prize of Rs 9000.
The 2nd bout was won by Muneer Khan of Nagrota by defeating Ajay Sharma of Udhampur and was awarded with cash prizes of Rs 7000 and Rs 5000 respectively, while 3rd bout was won by Bablu of Basantgarh by trouncing Sanjeet Singh of J&K Police and were awarded with cash prizes with Rs 6000 and Rs 4000 respectively.
One women bout was also played wherein Arfana Akhtar defeated Zahida and were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 1100 and Rs 1000 respectively.
Former Minister Ajay Nanda emphasized the need of inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship and its rule in national character building. He also said the event has become a cemetery force between people of different regions and provides encouragement to the local wrestlers.
