Massive infra created to revive sports culture: Bhalla

JAMMU, Aug 17: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla has said that massive sports infrastructure has been created across the State over past years to revive the sports culture in the State and groom talent of the youth.
This was stated by the Minister today while addressing a gathering at Gandhi Nagar after distributing mementos and medals among those who brought laurels for State in Sports Speedball Tournament held at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium New Delhi recently organized by Sports Speedball Association of India.
Indira Bhalla was also present on the occasion.
Mr Bhalla said Government is making all efforts to organize more sports events at districts level as it helps to tap the available talent.
He said there was no dearth of talent in the State and the need is to provide the youth an opportunity to exhibits their hidden talent. He asked the officers to seek cooperation of the education and other departments, besides local sports clubs to organize sports events as it would help to promote sports culture in particular area.
Meanwhile, J&K Speedball players clinched seven silver medals in this Championship.
Twenty states having national gold medalists in this discipline of sports participated in the championship, wherein the Country’s like Egypt, Japan, France and Kuwait etc also took part.
From J&K, 15 players participated in the championship and brought 7 silver medals.
Those who got medals included Gurmanjeet Singh, Sugandh Mehta, Sahil Janjua, Varun Preet Singh, Sunny Nanda, Rhea Tikku and Sugandh Mehta, while the participation certificates were  given to Manthan Pandoh, Pranay Gupta, Sonam Sharma, Aryan Kangotra, Siddhanth Bamotra, Rahul Mennia, Ritik Ratra, Samaksh Kumar, Veermanu Singh and Manika Sharma.
Earlier, the team was received by J&K Speedball Association president, Anil Nanda alongwith other members of the Association.
