JAMMU, Mar 12: Two day Weightlifting Championship, organised by J&K Weightlifting Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, aiming to encourage and develop the Sports culture among the weightlifters of the UT, concluded at Indoor Sports Complex Bhagwati Nagar, here today.
Dushant Sharma, general secretary, Olympic Association was the chief guest on the occasion of the closing ceremony. The welcome address was presented by Harbhajan Singh, president Weightlifting Association. Yudhvir Singh, general secretary J&K Weightlifting Association presented the vote of thanks to the dignitaries including Vikas Gupta, Vinod Sachdev, Kulbir Singh, Ravi Singh and many others who graced the event.
Jammu District emerged as the winner in all the three championships namely youth, junior and senior, while Srinagar stood as runner up in youth and junior championships and Police Weightlifting team remained runner up in senior championship.
In youth championship (89kg), Tajinder Singh stood 1st in 96 kg, Nirmal Singh remained 1st in 102 kg, Misun Choudhary and Jatin Mehra bagged 1st and 2nd places in 109 kg and Archit Mahajan stood 1st in plus 109 kg and Saksham won 1st place.
In junior championship (89 kg), Akash Soodan, Narender Sambyal and Zubair Bashir stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, in 96 kg, Karan Sahu remained 1st, in 102 kg, Mohd Yasin won first place and in senior championship (89 kg), first three places were won by Manjeet Singh, Mohd Zafar and Rohit Rajput respectively, while in 96 kg, Namandeep Singh, Abhishekh Kumar and Vishal Gupta stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and in 102 kg, first three positions were bagged by NItin Singh, Himanshu Sharma and Arun Raj Bhagat, besides in 109 kg, Gaurav Sharma remained 1st.
In plus 109 kg, Pushpinder Singh and Vishal Kumar stood 1st and 2nd respectively, while in women category youth (45 kg), Shameem Akhtar stood 1st, in 49 kg, Nirmal Singh stood 1st and in 59 kg, Aayat Aamir remained 1st and Ruksana Begum stood 2nd.
In 64 kg, first two places were won by Gurpreet and Shah Talla, while in 71 kg, Ekam Kour stood 1st. In junior championship 55 kg, 1st place was won by Salbeena Aslam, while in 59 kg, Palak Devi clinched 1st place and in 76 kg, Kripa Bhatti remained 1st, besides in senior championship 49 kg, 1st and 2nd places were secured by Majeema Sofi and Komal Gupta, while in 55 kg, Bindiya, Ritika and Dimple stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and in 59 kg, Lakshmi Devi stood 1st, besides in 64 kg, Anjal Sharma remained 1st and in 71 kg, Radhika Kumari won 1st place. Moreover, in 81 kg, Sharon John stood 1st, while in 87 kg, Priya Sharma bagged 1st place.
