SAMBA, Mar 22: Former Chief Minister and president Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti while lashing out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused it of further dividing country by creating a wedge among the different communities.
Addressing a party meeting here, today Mehbooba said Congress might have done some wrongs during its over 60 years rule in the country but one of the greatest credit which the party deserves is that it did not divide people on the name of religion and region and enriched the age -old composite culture of the nation.

Mehbooba, while turning tables on BJP said if the founder of Pakistan Ali Mohammed Jinah had divided the country in 1947, they will further divide it in many parts with their policies as they are creating a wedge between Hindus and Muslims , Dalits and Brahmins. She said that India is like a garden in which the people belonging to different religions including Hindus , Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Buddhists live and they are trying to divide people on the name of religion.
The former CM said that her party wanted peace in J&K and for that it favoured dialogue with Pakistan to end over 70 years stalemate but they want to continue hostilities with neighboring country which is not in the interests of the people. So they are crying Jinah -Jinah always. Now leaving Jinah they have started crying Baber and Aurangzeb who were living before 800 and 500 years respectively.
Mehbooba wanted to know what we have to do with Baber and Aurangzeb today as they have no relevance in this modern time. “We have many problems at present, there is growing unemployment in the country as 46 percent people are without jobs. Instead of concentrating on these issues we are dividing people on communal and caste basis”, she added.
She said the children are in desperation as they have no job and they are falling a prey to bad companies including drugs. So the mothers are worried for the welfare of their children and instead of paying attention to these issues they concentrate on dividing people and how long this will go, she asked?
She said India has achieved a name all over world where people from different religions live in peace and harmony. “This was a great credit to us”. In comparison to that no one looks towards Pakistan and China as they are not secular nations, she added.
She said to foster bonds of friendship with Pakistan her party advocated for opening of Suchet garh road in Jammu with Pakistan like Uri- Muzafarabad so that the Basmati of Jammu will go to Pakistan and people will earn the money. But they are not interested in that. They want conflict to Pakistan should continue for their vested interests, she added.
Mehbooba, while taking serious note of Hijab Issue, said they are asking the Muslim women not to wear Hijab. Hijab is a cover which the women should wear . “Tomorrow they will say not to hoist the Tricolour and hoist the Bhagwa will we allow and tolerate the same”, she asked?
The PDP chief said that she has not come to seek vote from people as it is not election time at present but she wanted to apprise the people about the wrong policies of this Government. “We are facing shortage of irrigation facilities and instead of concentrating on that they are thrusting on unproductive issues”, she added.
Former CM said that they have seen bad times and want that good days should now come with restoration of peace. While referring to horrible days of terrorism she said there were massacres in Chattisingpora, Nadimarg, in Anantnag district of Kashmir Chatru in Kistwar district of Jammu and Surankote in Poonch district of Jammu region. “Even our close relatives were killed so we want the good days should come,. But they don’t want that they want Hindu Muslims should fight”, she added.
