SRINAGAR, Aug 23: N N Vohra, Governor Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated the Senior National Rugby 7’s Championship at Bakshi Stadium here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor observed that there are very good Rugby players in Jammu and Kashmir and hoped that with the organisation of this National Level Rugby event at Srinagar this game would become even more popular in the State. Governor suggested J&K Rugby Association to organize Rugby matches of the best boys and girls teams, both at Srinagar and Jammu and announced rupees one lakh for the same. He also urged the association to organize Rugby matches in Leh and Kargil districts next year with a view to promote Rugby in the Ladakh region as well.
Earlier, the players of all the participating teams were introduced to the Governor. He interacted with them and wished them very successful performances during the 3-day Championship.
The Governor declared the Championship open by releasing the colourful balloons. He also witnessed the inaugural match of the Championship which was played between J&K and Uttar Pradesh teams.
Pramod Khanna, president, Indian Rugby Football Union, presented voice of thanks the Governor for declaring the Championship open. He proposed that an international Rugby Championship may be held in the State in the coming time.

Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Dilip Thussu, Secretary, State Sports Council, functionaries of the Youth Services and Sports Department, Sports Council and J&K Rugby Association.
