Jammu eves thrash Rajouri girls by 82 runs

JAMMU, Aug 23: District Jammu girls thrashed the Rajouri girls by a huge margin of 82 runs in the Inter-District Girls Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament, while semis lineup has been drawn in the boys event with Samba, Udhampur, Doda and Reasi entering the last four stage in the Divisional Level Inter-District Under-19 boys and girls Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament at Green Field Ground, here today.
The Tournament is being organized as part of annual calendar of activities by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the overall supervision of Ved Parkash, Deputy Director, Jammu.
Earlier, Jammu girls crushed their counterparts of Rajouri district in a one-sided affair.
Winning the toss and batting first, Jammu scored 100 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the stipulated 8 overs. Aratrika was the top scorer with 25 runs, while Neha, Nadia and skipper Jaspreet contributed 19, 15 and 10 runs to the total respectively. For Rajouri, Afia Kouser claimed one wicket.
Rajouri, in reply bundled out for a meagre total of 18 runs in 5.3 overs, thus lost the match by 82 runs. Neetu scored 10 runs, while no other batswoman could manage to cross the double figure mark. Muskan bagged 3 wickets for Jammu district, while Nadia bagged 2. Bhavika also claimed one wicket.
Meanwhile in Under-19 boys, semifinals position has been cleared.
District Samba defeated Jammu by 6 wickets to make it to the semifinal.
Batting first Jammu scored 54 for 2 in 8 overs. Mohit Gupta (19), Surya Mahotra (13) and Vassu Aggarwal (8) were the main contributors. Ashwani took one wicket for Samba.
In reply, Samba scored 55 in 7.3 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Amandeep Singh and Munish Sharma scored 23 and 15 runs respectively. Ashank took 2 wickets for Jammu.
In another match, Udhampur got better of Ramban by 45 runs in an easy contest.
Batting first, Udhampur scored 85 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the allotted 8 overs. Sunil Kumar and Rajat contributed 45 and 25 runs to the total respectively. Suneet was the most successful bowler for Ramban, who took 2 wickets.
Ramban, in reply, managed 41 runs in the stipulated overs by losing 5 wickets in the process, thus lost the match by 44 runs. Suneet was the top scorer with 18 runs. Vikas bagged one wicket for Udhampur.
Doda defeated Poonch by 7 wickets in a low scoring match and qualified for the semifinals. Batting first, Poonch bundled out for 31 runs in 6.3 overs. None of the batsman could manage to cross the double figure mark. Kamran took 3 wickets, while Amit Singh bagged 2 wickets for Doda.
Doda chased the target in 4.2 overs by losing one wicket, thus won the match by 7 wickets`. Amit Singh and Kamran contributed 15 and 13 runs respectively. Jugal of Poonch took the lone wicket of Doda to fall.
In last match of the day, Reasi thrashed Rajouri by 8 wickets. Rajouri scored 40 for 7 wickets in 8 overs, with Bubashar Bhat and Sunil Choudhary contributing 12 and 7 runs to the total respectively. Dara Singh took 2 wickets for Reasi.
Reasi chased the target in just 3.2 overs without losing any wicket, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Openers Ankush and Kamaljeet scored unbeaten 21 and 11 runs to the total respectively.
The matches were officiated by Satpal Singh, Jagtar Singh, Suresh Singh, Pankaj Sasun, Madan Mohan, Sadiq Hussain and Satika Sharma.
