JAMMU, Mar 28: A delegation of different people from the slum areas of Krishna Nagar here today met former Chairman of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Councillor of Ward 12, Jeet Angral and expressed resentment against the exorbitant electricity bills.
Angral listened to the issue of delegation members most of which were small workers either working in some shop or in some godown.
After this the JMC Councillor addressed a press conference and urged upon the J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha that the electricity bills of such poor people, most of whom do not earn more than Rs. 5000-6000 per month, should be waived off.
He said that most of these people are from the lower strata of society who have already suffered a lot due to the lockdown triggered by the COVID pandemic during which they used whatever savings they had and presently their condition is very pathetic.
“How can such people pay the electricity bills running in lakhs while they struggle a lot to earn their daily livelihood,” Angral told reporters.
He also appealed to the Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner Jammu and Chief Engineer PDD to issue order that power connections of such poor families should not be cut till some solution regarding their bills is found.
