JAMMU, Apr 4: Jammu Doctors Forum (JDF) today strongly condemned and criticized police of Dausa in Rajasthan for harassing Dr Archana Sharma, a Gynecologist working in Lalsot- based hospital to such an extent that the lady doctor had no option but to commit suicide.
“Police framed the allegations of medical negligence and murder wide section 302 of IPC on the doctor which abetted the doctor for suicide. It is to be mentioned that a pregnant lady who was under the treatment of Dr Archana Sharma collapsed with massive bleeding after delivery,” said Dr Satya Dev Gupta, president JDF while adding that in medical terminology it is known as PPH (post partum haemorhage) treating a patient who had come for child birth.
Dr Gupta said the Supreme Court in a recent judgment has directed that “No doctor can assure life to his patient but can only attempt to treat everyone to the best of his or her abilities” and underscored that a doctor cannot be held guilty of medical negligence just because a patient has not survived.
He said JDF has staged a strong demonstration with a march of black flags and candles on April 3 at Bahu Plaza to show its anguish on such types of incidents and made a fervent but a bold appeal to the authorities to punish the culprits. He said Supreme Court has laid down clear guidelines that a case cannot be filed against the Doctor without seeking opinion of Expert Board of Doctors but in case of Dr Archana Sharma the police registered a case under Section 302 without seeking any expert opinion and thus, forced Dr Archana Sharma to take extreme step of committing suicide.
Jammu Doctors Forum appealed all governing authorities within India and outside country that suitable, concrete, and firm directions may be activated to penalize the culprits who defy the supreme legal bodies.
