JAMMU, Aug 27: Expressing shock over the news item regarding improper and unhygienic storage of food items of mass consumption meant primarily for BPL, Chamber of Commerce and Industry has impressed upon the traders to store food items in most hygienic conditions and urged the State Government to strictly enforce the provisions of Food Safety Act with regard to storage and sale of food items.
“This news exposes the callous attitude of the concerned agencies, which have scant regards for precious lives of humans by endangering the same by exposing the food items to the vagaries of weather”, the Chamber said.
“The fact that only two of the seven godowns were opened for inspection by the Divisional Commissioner while rest of the five godowns were not opened, creates a strong suspicion in the minds of the general public that all is not well in those five godowns, which were primarily storing wheat and rice meant for midday meal”, the CCI said.
The Chamber requested the traders to store food items in hygienic conditions and Government agencies to enforce the provisions of Food Safety Act strictly.
