JAMMU, Apr 21: Apni Party (AP) provincial president Jammu and former Minister, Manjit Singh today condemned PDD for its failure to supply round the clock electricity amid increase in mercury.
To review the situation that emerged from the present electricity crisis in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts, a provincial level meeting was chaired by the party’s provincial president, Jammu, Manjit Singh at the party office in Gandhi Nagar.
A threadbare discussion was held with regard to the situation in Jammu plain areas which is passing through a difficult phase due to the unprecedented electricity cuts causing public outcry.
Speaking at the meeting, Manjit Singh said that the administration as well as PDD officials have failed in its commitment made with the people to supply electricity during summers.
“The complaints against PDD’s inefficiency have doubled in one month. The harsh weather conditions during this Summer have adversely affected the normal life in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts in particular as they are plain and most affected as the mercury increases,” he said.
He said that “The PDD is charging bills from the consumers but does not supply adequate electricity to them.”
“Instead, they adopt a procedure which is anti-people. Hence, the PDD must review its policy and ensure the electricity is supplied 24/7 in the above said places,” he said and added that the drinking water supply also gets affected in the kandi belt which often faces shortage of drinking water supply despite claims from the authorities.
When the electricity supply gets affected, he said that the water supply also gets irregular in the soaring temperature and it causes more problems to the people.
Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the situation following hail storms and rainfall which has damaged standing crops across Jammu.
“The farmers have suffered losses due to the sudden hailstorm and rainfall in parts of Jammu region. Hence, the respective district administrations should constitute committees to make assessment of the losses,” the provincial president of AP said.
