POONCH, Aug 29: The police today arrested a youth for committing rape and murder of a young girl at a village in Mandi area of Poonch district.
The accused, identified as Mohd Shabir, son of Mohd Rafiq, resident of Danna Duyian who confessed his guilt has been booked on the charge of rape and murder under FIR No. 76/2013 and placed behind the bars. The police said the dead body of Shehzada Bi (name changed), had been recovered from the maize fields at some distance from her house on August 2.
The girl went missing in the evening and the parents started searching. Next morning, her dead body had been recovered from the fields about 300 meters away from the home. A bottle of insecticides (poisonous staff) was also recovered from the spot. The police got suspicious after examining spot and getting medical postmortem report.
SP Poonch, Shamsheer Hussain constituted a police team led by DySP Headquarters Poonch Mohd Rashid.
After getting some clues, the police party came to know about the relations of youth Mohd Shabir with the deceased. The police placed Shabir under sustained interrogation. During this process, the accused broke and confessed his guilt.
Shabir claimed that he wanted to marry the girl and also sent his father to the parents of the girl about a year back but girl’s parents refused and threatened him and his family. Upon this, he called the girl to the fields on phone for talks and also asked her to flee away from house and solemnize court marriage but she refused.
But as she refused to accept his proposal, he raped her in the field and then caught hold of her from throat and gagged her to death. He put poisonous substance in her mouth and kept the bottle nearby to project it as suicide case and confuse the police investigations.
The police said that case stands solved and the accused will be produced in the court of law shortly for the stringent punishment
