JAMMU, Apr 29: Women Marathon Runners in coordination with NGO-National Corruption Control and Human Welfare Organisation (NCCHWO) and Tiger Division conducted a run to pay homage to ‘Veer Naris’ with an aim to bring citizens and Veer Nari at one platform for better interaction, here today.
The run culminated at Balidan Stambh wherein a dozen of local organisations including War Decorated India, SS Jain Sabha Talab Tiloo, Home for Old and Infirm, Aggarwal Sabha, Mahila Mandal Jain Nagar Talab Tiloo and Jain Yuvak Sangh actively participated.
Rajesh Padha- an ultra runner motivated a team of 30 women runners to participate in this unique and noble event, while Navin Jain established the essential refreshment points and administrative support was assisted by the Army.
The runners participated in the run by holding Tricolour and completed their run wherein four runners including Manminder Kaur, Shipra Aggarwal, Sonia Sahwney and Shweta Mittal had won the attractive cash prizes during the recently held Katra Marathon. All the cash prizes were donated by them to widows of non-pensioners soldiers.
During the event, Brig Harcharan Singh, National Administrator of NCCHWO explained the concept behind the programme and emphasized that citizens should adopt the families of soldiers, who were killed in action to safeguard the country’s boundaries.
It was informed that an effort will be made to visit houses of ‘Veer Naris’ for better interaction. ID Soni spoke on behalf of citizens and emphasized that to develop nationalistic as well as patriotic feeling among the youth.
Presentations were made for felicitations of Veer Naris/ widows of Army personnel by the Aggarwal Sabha and Home for Old and Infirm Jammu wherein six Veer Naris and 13 soldiers’ widows were present, while the runners were awarded with appreciation certificates for their selfless efforts.
ID Soni and Swatanter Aggarwal were honoured for serving the society in the field of education and selfless services during Covid period respectively, while Giat Nandan Jain, Manminder Kaur and Rajesh Padha were also honoured during the event.
Rajesh Padha presented a vote of thanks, while the event was coordinated by Col Virender Kumar. The programme culminated with the recital of the National Anthem.
