JAMMU, Aug 31: In the ongoing 8th Prof Yousuf Memorial Cricket Cup being played at Islamia College of Science and Commerce Srinagar, Gandhi Memorial College defeated Post Graduates Kashmir University by 2 wickets.
Earlier, put into bat, Post Graduates K U scored 135 runs in the allotted 25 overs. Adil and Fayaz contributed 48 and 22 runs to the total.
For Gandhi Memorial College, Abid Nabi captured 3 wickets, while Zubair, Umer and Faizan claimed 2 wickets each.
Chasing a modest total of 136 runs, Gandhi Memorial College achieved the target in 21.3 overs by losing 8 wickets, thus won the match by 2 wickets. Jasbeer and Abid Nabi were the main contributors with 41 and 35 runs respectively. For Post Graduates K U, Adil, Wahid and Mudassir claimed 2 wickets each, while Mudasir and Rinku claimed 1 wicket each.
With this win, Gandhi College sealed berth in the finals of the tournament which will be held on September 5, 2013, while Islamia College of Science and Commerce will take on Government Degree College Shopian in another semifinals tomorrow.
The Tournament is being organised by the Department of Physical Education, Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar in the memory of Ex-Principal of the College, Prof Mohammad Yousuf, who had contributed immensely in the development of College infrastructure.
