Abhinav wins 1st Gold in Sub-Jr Sports Climbing C’ship

JAMMU, May 1: Abhinav Sharma of National Academy High School Udhampur bagged the first Gold medal in the Sub Junior Boys category of the Udhampur and Reasi District Sport Climbing competitions which started today at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here.
The Silver and Bronze medals were claimed by Shivam Mahajan and Saksham Singh of the same School.
Similarly, in the Sub Junior boy’s category of Reasi District there was a good competition among Surjeet Singh, Vansh Sharma and Atul Verma of Amba Kids Home, Panthal, Katra in which Surjeet Singh emerged as victorious. Atul and Vansh Sharma clinched the Silver and Bronze medals.
In mini boys, Hari Vansh, Ankul Sharma and Harvansh won top three medals, while in mini girls, Sukanya, Simran and Janvi stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and in sub junior girls, first three medals were won by Vanshika, Avantika Thakur and Ariti Parihar in the District Championship of Reasi.
In Udhampur District Championship (mini girls), first three medals were secured by Peehu Sharma, Sunaina Sharma and Ira Singh respectively, while in mini boys, Aarav Khajuria, Karmanya Sharma and Anurag Sharma bagged top three medals and in sub junior girls, Dhriti, Samriti and Aditi stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Meanwhile, final rounds in the junior girls and boys categories of both Districts were in progress.
Earlier, the championship in which about 130 climbers are participating was declared open by Ashwani Sharma, ex MLA and Patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K in the presence of Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary; Ram Khajuria, senior vice president and Sumit Khajuria, vice president of Mountaineering Association of J&K and others.
While addressing the gathering the chief guest lauded the role of the Association in promoting sports climbing in the Union Territory of J&K despite infrastructure constraints and producing national and international climbers like Shivani Charak.
Both the championships are being organized by the Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
