JAMMU, May 4: PoJK Liberation Front, president Pritam Lal while narrating the sequences of Pakistani invasion on Jammu and Kashmir on October 22 in 1947 and evacuation of lakhs of people from their native land and their sufferings, said the October 22 was a day of horror for them.
Pritam Lal was addressing a meeting of refugees in connection with forthcoming Punyabhoomi memorial function here today. He said in that attack, Pakistan illegally occupied thousands of square kilometers of Jammu and Kashmir, including the areas of Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh, Pulandari, Sadanoti, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, Baltistan and Poonch. At that time, thousands of Hindus, Sikhs were brutally killed and their families were burnt alive in their homes and thousands of mothers and sisters were insulted.
Other members present in the meeting said how thousands of displaced people of PoJK were forced to wander outside the State of Jammu and Kashmir due to the planned policy of the then Government of Jammu and Kashmir. They were denied various rights for decades. Under the weak policies of the then governments and the Shimla Agreement, the Chhamb displaced persons could never return to their villages and were forced to live in different areas of the State.
The speakers appealed the people especially those displaced from PoJK to participate in Punyabhoomi Memorial Function to be held on May 8 at Women College Gandhi Nagar.
This is for the first time after independence, a memorial function is going to be organized by Jammu and Kashmir People’s Forum to pay tributes to the saviors of Jammu and Kashmir and to those who lost their lives to save their families.
Preparations for the function have been intensified as many meetings have been organised in the city and surrounding areas, appealing the people to participate in the programme in large numbers . These organizations include Gita Mandir Smriti Bhawan Sanstha and PoJK Liberation Front etc. People of various organizations have also started door-to-door distribution of leaflets in this regard.
The meeting of Geeta Mandir Memorial Building Association was held under the leadership of its chairman, Dr. Deepak Kapoor. In the meeting, it was decided to give impetus to the door to door campaign launched by the organization to make the PoJK displaced society aware of the gathering.
