Jammu boys outclass Kashmir counterparts in U-19 cricket

JAMMU, Sept 6: Jammu boys defeated their counterparts from Kashmir in the second and third match of the three match series of the Inter-Division Under-19 boys Cricket Tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Sports Stadium, Kathua.
Earlier, in the second match of the series, Jammu scripted a narrow win by 2 wickets over Kashmir in a close contest.
Batting first, Kashmir division scored a fighting total of 153 runs in the stipulated 25 overs. Haseeb Shah was top scorer with 29 runs, while Jameel and Rayees Ahmed contributed 27 and 24 runs to the total respectively. For, Jammu division, Shubam Pundhir and Sunil Kumar scalped 2 wickets each.
In reply, Jammu division reached the target in 24.5 overs by losing 8 wickets, thus won the match by 2 wickets. Hinan top scored with 45 runs, while Abid Mushtaq and Nihal Khajuria contributed 41 runs and 21 runs respectively. For Kashmir division, Shabaz and Imtiyaz claimed 2 wickets each.
In the third and last match of the series, Jammu drubbed Kashmir by 5 wickets in an easy contest.
Batting first, Kashmir scored a modest total of 103 runs in the allotted 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Haseeb Shah (26) and Nayeem (24) were the main contributors. For Jammu, Shubam Pundhir was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets by conceding just 6 runs, while Jaffar bagged 2 wickets.
In reply, Jammu scored the required runs in 17.3 overs by losing 5 wickets, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Hinan, Nihal and Shubam were the main scorers with 30, 24 and 23 runs respectively. Shahbaz bagged 2/17 for Kashmir division. Shubam Pundhir of Jammu bagged 9 wickets in 3 matches and scored good number of runs also.
The tournament was held as part of the annual calendar of activities to pick the State team for the forthcoming National School Games. The Jammu division team was accompanied by former First-Class cricketer, Jagtar Singh as coach, while the selction committee among others included former Ranji trophy players and NIS coaches NP Singh and Sameer Malik.
