JAMMU, June 2: Holding of 7th Convocation of SKUAST-Jammu on 28th of June and award of degrees was among agenda of items discussed in twenty third Academic Council meeting of SKUAST-Jammu, which was held today under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof J P Sharma.
Other items in the agenda included guidelines for engagement of adjunct faculty, enhancement of remuneration for conducting annual/ end Semester/ supplementary examination, change in the nomenclature of the divisions of TVCC, ILFC and LPM; institution of new under graduate programme viz., B Tech (Agril Engg) and B Tech (Dairy Sciences); institution of new post graduate programme viz, Master of Fisheries Science (Fisheries Resource Management), M Sc in Urban Entomology and M Sc. in Organic Farming; up gradation of fisheries Unit to Division of Fisheries; change of nomenclature of the Post of I/c University Examination cell to Controller of Examination; Accreditation of teachers/ scientists for postgraduate teaching/research; upgradation of school of Biotechnology to Institute of Biotechnology and upgradation of Division of Agricultural Economics and Agri-business Management into Institute of Agri-Business Management and Agricultural Economics. The modalities for refund policy for students admitted during Academic session 2021-22.was also chalked out.
Prof J P Sharma, in his concluding remarks, asked for identification of certain areas in research, extension and academics for collaborative endeavours with other universities/institutions. He also stated that Academic Council meetings are to be conducted regularly to frame rules for modification of existing rules and for improving quality of education. Further he emphasised need to accelerate progress in order to address new challenges related to excellence and global competence in academics through the team efforts. He also stressed upon involving Ph D students in teaching assistance as per the guidelines of BSMA.
Vice-Chancellor urged Deans of all the Faculties to ensure that the student completes his/her degree programme in a time bound manner.
Agenda of the meeting was presented by Prof S K Gupta, Registrar and Member Secretary of the Academic Council. Dr S E H. Rizvi, Dean, F B Sc. Dr Jyoti Kachroo, Director Planning & Monitoring; Dr M S Bhadwal, Dean, F V Sc & A H; Dr A K Mondal, Dean, FoA, Dr Rajinder Peshin, I/c University Examination Cell, Dr Bharat Bhushan, Joint Registrar (Academics), all the Heads of the Divisions of Faculties of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and Basic Science also attended the meeting.
