JAMMU, June 3: Hydro electric projects workers have gone on indefinite strike from today.
As workers went on indefinite strike, the work on the two prestigious Hydro Electric Projects Pakal Dool (1000 MW) and Kiru (624 MW) of CVPPL on river Chenab came to halt.
On the first day of the strike, the workers staged sit in protest and raised slogans in favour of their demand. The protest was led by Kisan Mazdoor Union, affiliated with Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh.
The protestors said that the deliberations with the Regional Labour Commissioner had failed and the workers of the hydro electric projects had decided to go on indefinite strike till their demand is not redressed from today.
“We got no response from the concerned agencies towards our demand”, he said, adding that their main demand is implementation of Minimum Wages Act as per central law.
The protestors alleged that the workers are being exploited by executing agencies which forced them to issue strike notice.
“We had given the notice of the strike after discussions with the concerned authorities ended with no fruitful result”, the protestors said, adding that they will continue their strike till their demand is not redressed.
