JAMMU, June 9: A Volleyball tournament under Civic Action Programme (CAP) was organized by District Police under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandan Kohli in Sub-division Akhnoor, near here today.
The tournament was inaugurated by Superintendent of Police Rural, Sanjay Sharma in presence of SDPO Akhnoor, Varun Jandial, SHO Akhnoor, Hilal Azhar, Chairman Municipal Committee Akhnoor, Sanjay Saraf and other dignitaries including Ward members, Sarpanch and Panches of the area.
A total of eight teams are taking part in the tournament. The Trikuta Clinic Akhnoor and Chairman of Municipal Committee, Akhnoor announced cash prizes for winner and runner up teams during the inaugural ceremony.
The inaugural match was played between Pargwal team and J&K Home Guard wherein the former emerged winner in a close contest.
While addressing the gathering, SP Rural appealed to the civil society to form sports clubs in their respective areas to encourage the sports activities among youth as it not only keep the youth healthy and competitive but also help to divert them from bad habits including drug menace.
