Total hip replacement done for first time in GN Hospital

JAMMU, Sept 12: For the first time, a total hip replacement surgery was today conducted in the Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar on 45 years old patient Sushil Kumar of Akhnoor, who had fracture neck of femur in 1997.
The patient had been operated upon in 1998 and bipolar prosthesis was done. However, about 4 years back, he developed pain in the hip.
His X-ray revealed broken stem of prosthesis. His surgery was planned and total hip replacement was done at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Romesh Gupta said.
He said the surgery was successfully conducted by a team of doctors comprising Dr Rakesh Sharma, Dr Rajesh Gandotra and Dr Ranbhushan Singh along with theatre staff.
This is the first of its kind hip replacement surgery in Health sector, which was undertaken at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar.
The surgery was undertaken under the supervision of Director Health Services Jammu Dr Baljit Pathania and Medical Superintendent Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar Dr Romesh Gupta.
