GDC Kathua to face GCET in men’s final

JAMMU, Sept 12: Defeating their rivals convincingly in the semifinals, GDC Kathua and GCET qualified for the finals in the men’s section, while GCW Gandhi Nagar and GGM Science College prevailed over their rivals in the women’s section in the semifinals to make way for the finals of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Badminton Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Police Lines Ground, here.
Now in the title clashes GDC Kathua will lock horns with GCET and GCW Gandhi Nagar will meet GGM Science College in men and women sections respectively.
Earlier, in the men’s first semifinals, GDC Kathua beat MAM College by (3 – 0). In singles, Ankit drubbed Raghav by (21-11, 21-9) and Avishek trounced Arjun Singh by (21-13, 21-19), while in doubles Ankit and Dinesh defeated Deepak and Arjun by (21-7, 21-7).
In men’s second semifinal, GCET drubbed PG Department by (3-0). In singles, Ankit got better of Amit Jasrotia by (21-18, 16-21, 21-12) and Rohail Singh beat Taranpal Singh by (21-19, 21-18), while in doubles, Amit and Rohail prevailed over Amit and Taranpal by (21-16, 21-11).
Meanwhile, in women’s section first semifinals, GCW Gandhi Nagar beat GDC Paloura by (2-0). In singles, Prabjot Kaur outplayed Shilpa Bali by (21-3, 21-9) and in doubles, Suvidha and Ishaan beat Sakshi and Shilpa by (21-9, 21-5).
In women’s second semifinal, GGM Science College beat PG Department by (2-0). In singles, Diksha Mahajan outclassed Sangita Bhat by (21-4, 21-8), while in doubles, Diksha and Anshu beat Sangita and Suman by  (21-2, 21-5).
The matches were officiated by Vikram Jamwal, Ravish Vaid, Pankaj, Suresh, Amit, Ajay, Sunil, Charanjeet, Rakesh and Kulvinder, under the overall supervision of Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
The final matches will be played at 12.00 noon at the same venue tomorrow.
