SRINAGAR: Indefinite curfew continued in Shopian in south Kashmir today since September 11 following massive protest against the death of a school bus driver allegedly in security forces firing during demonstration at Gagran, where four people were killed in CRPF firing on September 7.
However, situation elsewhere in the Kashmir valley was normal.
The District Magistrate (DM) Shopian, has directed security forces to treat admit card of students appearing in Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) examination today as curfew passes.
The administration has, meanwhile, shifted the SSRB examination centre from Degree College, Shopian, to a private institute.
Official sources said indefinite curfew continued in the Shopian town and some adjoining areas with any relaxation as a precautionary measure.
The restriction would be relaxed after a review meeting in the afternoon, they said, adding that the situation was by and large peaceful.
Four people were killed in CRPF firing on September 7. However, police said that three of the deceased youths were having no previous militant links while the fourth was a non-local militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
The police claim was contested by a senior Congress leader and former minister Ghulam Hassan Khan and locals, who claimed that the deceased was a non-local labourer.
The government has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and appointed DM Shopian, Bashir Ahmad Bhat to inquire into the killing of all the five people at Gagran.
However, the government said that judicial inquiry will be ordered in case there is no result.
