SAMBA, July 11: Former minister and Senior BJP leader Surjeet Singh Slathia today expressed happiness over the interest being evinced in reading by the public in libraries notwithstanding the internet boom, saying this is a healthy and encouraging sign of having the realness of holding books in hands.
Inaugurating the Baba Hasal Dev Ji Library at Gurha Slathia in the Vijaypur Assembly Constituency, Slathia said the libraries play pivotal role in providing a congenial atmosphere to readers, especially the students, not only in attaining knowledge of the great and visionary writers by jotting down relevant notes for their assignments but also to exchange views with fellow readers on different aspects of their knowledge.
Slathia expressed the hope that the new facility in the area will generate interest among the people to read books and encourage the student community to benefit from the books which many cannot afford. The management of the library should also keep itself updated with the requirements of the readers and accordingly keep adding to their collections, he further hoped.
He exuded confidence that the facilities like the library apart from sports are imperative for channelizing the energetic youth towards positive and productive pursuits. This is the need of the hour to save the future of the youngsters who are the hope of the nation. The establishment of the library, he hoped, will attract a large number of youth of the area and its close vicinities to get ornamented with knowledge.
