JAMMU, July 11: Tawi Trekkers J&K celebrated the grand success of the first phase of ‘Himalayan Trekking Programme’ in a function, held at Press Club of Jammu, here today.
On this occasion a number of young organisers of this programme, trekkers and institutions which promote adventure activities were honoured by the chief guest Anil Goswami, former Union Home Secretary of India, the presiding guest Ashwani Sharma, former MLA and Zorawar Singh Jamwal, President of Mountaineering Association of J&K.
The ‘Dedication Award’ of the highest order was conferred upon Prof Suman Lata, Director Physical Education and Sports, GCW Parade for promoting trekking in a big way. The other recipients of the Award were Sumit Khajuria, Sonam Sidharth, Shilpa Charak, Narinder Singh, Shashi Kant Sharma, Vishali Sharma, Sunil Chkharia and Binderpal Singh.
The Sprawling Buds ICSE School Bantalab was honoured with a Dedication Award of the highest order for outstanding services to the cause of adventure. 11 other institutions including St. Xavier SSS Barnai, Oriental Academy HSS, Shiksha Niketan SSS Jeevan Nagar, RM Public School Chowadi, Govt College for Women Parade, Elite Public High School, Udheywala National Academy High School Udhampur, Amba Kids Home, Panthal; Shastri Memorial HSS Patoli, Jammu, Shining Star High School Muthi, and Govt Degree College, Katra were also awarded for their participation in the Club’s various activities.
Earlier, Ram Khajuria, President of the Club welcomed the guests and talked in detail about the various aspects of the Himalayan Trekking Programme, in which over 12000 students have so far participated during the last 23 years. The function was anchored by Arti Sharma, executive member of the Club.
The chief guest in his address recalled his association with the Club for the last 30 years. He congratulated the Club for its sustained efforts in taking trekking to the door steps of the children and also promoting other adventure activities and bringing laurels to J&K by producing national champions, international climbers and a number of Everesters.
