Sainik School Nagrota crowned North Zone Sports Champion

JAMMU, July 16: The North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports and Cultural Meet-2022 hosted by Sainik School Nagrota concluded at School Auditorium amidst fanfare and jubilation as Nagrotians were crowned overall champions of the meet.
Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, GOC, Headquarters 16 Corps graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest and gave away the Championship Trophies to the winners of various games.
In his address, the chief guest congratulated the Overall Champions Sainik School Nagrota for their stupendous performance in sports as well as literary events and lauded the Principal and the team of staff for organising the Sports Meet successfully.
Earlier, Capt (IN) AK Desai, Principal of the school presented welcome address and briefed the chief guest about the conduct of Zonal Competitions amongst Sainik Schools.
The participating contingents presented a colourful cultural program to mark the occasion.
The closing ceremony was graced by many distinguished guests and dignitaries including Senior Officers, Randheer Singh Billoria, Chairman NEXAS and illustrious alumni of the School.
On its way to clinching the overall championship trophy, Sainik School Nagrota won the Volleyball and Football Sub-Junior titles and stood runners-up in Hockey and Basketball. Further, the hosts also bagged the English Debate and Quiz Championship trophy in this edition of the tournament.
Sainik School Kunjpura won the Basketball title with ease while Sainik School Kapurthala took away the Hockey Championship in a nail-biting final against Sainik School Nagrota.
Amongst outstanding individual performers, Arush Verma of the host school bagged the Best Smasher award in Volleyball and Anshu Yadav of SS Kunjpura won the Highest Scorer award in Basketball. The other awards included Kunal of SS Kapurthala (Highest Scorer) and Ankit Verma of SS Nagrota (Best Goalkeeper in Hockey), Bhanu Pratap Khajuria of SS Nagrota (Highest Scorer) and Akshansh Kr Parihar of SS SS Nagrota (Best Goalkeeper) in Sub-Junior Football and Arun Kumar of SS Kapurthala (Highest Scorer) and Alok of SS Kunjpura (Best Goalkeeper) in Junior Football.
Following prize distribution, the Principal presented the School Memento to the chief guest.
Lt Gen Manjinder Singh in his address to the cadets and the contingents of all schools congratulated the champion teams and complimented them for participation in Inter Zonal Sports Competitions being held shortly. He also remembered his school days in Sainik School Kapurthala and observed that the present generation is better prepared and has better access to resources.
After complimenting the untiring efforts of Capt (IN) AK Desai, Principal and his team of Sainik School Nagrota, in organizing this mega event in an excellent manner, he declared the North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports and Cultural Meet-2022 closed.
