Tiger Division wins Cross Country Championship

JAMMU Sept 18: Western Command Cross Country Championship 2013-14 was held today under the aegis of Tiger Division at Jammu. 15 teams, with total of 90 participants from various formations, took part in the event. The 12 km cross-country run was conducted from Kotle Takliyan to Arnia. Sepoy Pravesh Kumar of Meerut Division won the race in record time of 37 minutes, while Rifleman Ghulam Mohammed and Sepoy Kapil finished at second and third position.
The Cross Country Championship is conducted every year to foster competitive spirit amongst the participants and to select budding talents from the Army for National Championships and Olympics. The Championship was flagged off by Maj Gen Ashwani Kumar, GOC, Tiger Division. All teams struggled neck to neck and Tiger Division team won the overall 1st position. Selected athletes would represent their team in the forthcoming Services Championship.
The GOC, Tiger Division applauded the fighting sprit of all participating runners and gave away prizes to the winners in a ceremony held at Arnia after the run. Speaking on the occasion, the General said that Army has produced many globally acclaimed athletes and sportsmen in international arena, who have brought     laurels for the Nation.
