SRINAGAR, Sept 19: N. N. Vohra, Governor, today observed that the educational institutions are granaries where future leaders of society are nurtured to shoulder the responsibilities of nation building in varied fields of human endeavour.
The Governor, as Chief Guest, was addressing the Annual Day Function of the Burn Hall Higher Secondary School, Sonwar, Srinagar, organized at the Kashmir University auditorium here today.
Describing the Annual Day Function as an important event for every educational institution, the Governor observed that it is an occasion for the management to look back at its achievements and failures in the year past and identify measures required for bringing about improvements in the future; it is an occasion of joyous celebration for the students who successfully complete their studies and also for their proud parents.
Referring to the scintillating composite cultural programme presented by the children on this occasion, the Governor specifically referred to the skit “Sick World”, observing that this brief play has conveyed an extremely important message about the need for strengthening communal harmony, brotherhood, love and compassion for the world to enjoy a peaceful environment. He observed that peace and normalcy are very essential pre-requisites for achieving progress and prosperity, adding that the educational institutions have a very crucial role in nurturing the spirit of camaraderie, brotherhood, love and compassion among the children so that, in their later lives, they can contribute towards the establishment of harmonious and peaceful societies.
The Governor described Burn Hall School as a historical institution which has produced students who have made a mark in varied arenas. He congratulated the Principal, Rev. Pereira, the School Management, teachers, staff, students and their parents on the Annual Day Function of the institution.
The Governor, on this occasion, felicitated the meritorious students by presenting to them mementos and cash prizes. He interacted with them and wished them a bright future ahead.

Earlier, on arrival at the Annual Day Function, the Governor was received by the Principal, management, teachers, staff, children and their parents.
Fr. Ivan Pereira, Principal of the School, in his welcome address, gave details of the endeavours made by this institution in imparting quality education to the children.
Among those present on this occasion was Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University.
