53 bovine animals being smuggled to Kashmir seized

JAMMU, Sept  20:  At least 36 bovine animals were seized by police at different locations in Thana Mandi and Surankote area on Mughal Road (Poonch) while 17 were rescued in Samba and Kud area of Udhampur last night.
A police spokesman said that naka party from Surankote led by SHO intercepted two Tata mobile vehicles at Behramgalla near Bafliaz early today  and found 12 bovine animals being  smuggled to Kashmir valley via Mughal Road. The smuggling of  bovine animals is strictly banned.
During search of vehicle No. JK-13B/1695, five bovine animals were found loaded. The driver had no valid permission of transportation from the District Magistrate.  The police seized the vehicle along with animals and arrested driver Mushtaq Ahmed, son of  Mohd Ayub of  Ram Nagri, Shopian and Gh Nabi, son of  Manoora Sheikh resident of Marha in Surankote. Seven animals were seized from vehicle No. JK-12/6692. Two persons arrested in this connection were identified as Mohd Hafiz, son of Mohd Sharief  and Mohd Rafiq, son of  Abdul Ghani, residents of Sathra in Mandi.
Meanwhile, 24 bovine animals were seized by  Thana Mandi police under the supervision of SDPO Mujib-ur-Rehman today. The animals were being taken in four different groups on foot along in the naka area while vehicle passed that area empty.  The smugglers had to load these animals at some distance ahead of the naka.  All the 24 animals were seized near Maniyal Gali  and four persons were arrested in this connection.
These arrested were identified as Mohd Jameel, son of Wazir Mohd of  Surankote, Ashfaq Ahmed, son of  Talib Hussain of Lah, Abdul Hamid, son of Abdul Ghani from Lah village in Thana Mandi and  Kabir Ahmed, son of  Faqir Mohd of  Kalakote. A case was registered against them.
Ghagwal police party in Samba intercepted two Mohindra load carriers bearing registration No. JK02AB/6350 and PB32P/ 0298 at Ghagwal on National Highway during last mid night  and found ten bovine animals loaded in them. The police claimed that drivers of both the vehicles managed to escape from the spot. Both the vehicles were seized and animals rescued. A case FIR No. 82/2013 has been registered in this connection.
Kud police also seized load carrier No. JK02AW/8648 which was on way to Kashmir from Jammu last night and rescued seven bovine animals loaded in it. A police officer said that both the bovine smugglers managed to escape from the naka point under the cover of darkness. The locals expressed strong resentment and alleged that smugglers were made to flee by police and every time police makes such claims.
