REASI, Sept 20: District Jammu emerged overall champion in boys section, while District Reasi claimed girls’ title in the Divisional Level Inter-District Fencing Tournament for Boys and Girls, under the age groups 14, 17 and 19, which concluded at Garden Estate Hall, here today.
151 fencers including 89 boys and 62 girls drawn from various Districts of Jammu Province participated in this mega event.
M S Chohan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Sanjeev Rathore, Ex En, PDD was the guest of honor.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chohan advised the youth to avoid excessive use of electronic gadgets such as computers, mobile phones etc, which will consume more energy than playing sports.
Sanjeev Rathore also spoke on the occasion and gave valuable tips to the budding players.
Earlier, Dr Swaran Singh Chib, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Reasi gave brief report of the tournament in his welcome address.
Shottu Lal, Fencing Coach, was the observer of the tournament.
Later, S M Tharmatt, Lecturer in Physical Education, Government HSS Katra presented vote of thanks.
The programme was compeered by Ashok Kumar, PEM, Government HS Dadoa, Reasi.
The matches were conducted by Ujjawal Gupta, Ajay Kumar, Shefali Gupta, Abdul Qadir, Tony Mattoo and Anthony Mattoo.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Manmeet Mattoo, Tehsildar Reasi, Ishtiaq Kachoo, Dy S P, S Gurvinder Singh and Jagdish Raj.
