KARGIL, July 29: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed today visited several flood-hit villages of Shakar-Chiktan area including Shakar, Yokma Kharboo, Hagnis, Samra, Pargue and other areas to take stock of situation and damage caused by flash floods besides measures being taken by the administration for relief and rehabilitation.
Executive Councilor Health Mohsin Ali, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, ASP Kargil Iftikhar Choudhary, BDC Shakar Chiktan Sayeda Banoo, Councilor Shakar Constituency Zakir Hussain, ACD Kargil Ghulam Muhammad, Superintending Engineer I&FC, PWD, PHE, besides other concerned officers and engineers of various engineering wings accompanied the CEC during the tour.
The CEC conducted an extensive tour of flood-affected villages and took first-hand appraisal of the situation, extent of damages and ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures for the affected families. He also took stock of damage of irrigation land, canals, khuls, standing crops, trees roads and residential houses.
Executive Engineer Mechanical informed the CEC that machines have been deployed at various sites of flash flood areas for clearance of debris. He said debris clearance works will be finished at the earliest if the weather remains favorable.
CEC Khan directed the concerned officer to accelerate debris clearance works. He directed the concerned officer from GRIEF to immediately restore Sanjak road which has been severely damaged by flash flood.
Khan assured locals trailing of local nalas at the earliest. In this regard, he requested locals to extend support for clearance works without any hindrance.
He directed concerned officers of the Revenue Department to speed up the assessment of damage in coordination with PRI members and ensure restoration plan at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the CEC also met local residents and gave a patient hearing to their grievances. He assured them full support from LAHDC Kargil and District Administration for the relief and rehabilitation process.
