Surveillance campaign on adulteration of edible oils going on in full swing

Srinagar, Aug 2: The Food Safety Wing of Drugs and Food Control Organization, Kashmir has commenced its 14 day Survelliance Drive to check the adulteration in edible vegetable oil, multisource edible oil and vanaspati.
The drive is being undertaken on the directions of Commissioner, Food and Drugs Administration, J&K(UT).
The drive which was set in motion yesterday and continue till August 14 has resulted in collection of 6 samples of mustard oil, 3 samples of vanaspati, 3 samples of multisource edible oil and 12 samples of refined soyabean oil from two districts viz Anantanag and Bandipora.
The drive is being undertaken as a part of PAN india campiagn to ensure that the sample base is wide and representative of all the brands being sold in the markets viz-a-viz to collect the data for non-compliance on part of the Manufacturers and to curb the adulteration of Edible Oil in the food market as it constitutes significant part of the daily basket.
The Deputy Commissioner, Food Safety, Kashmir, Shagufa Jalal, while commenting on this Surveillence campiagn, said that the department is committed to ensure the availability as well as accessibility of safe and wholesome food to every citizens.
Deputy Director has made it clear that the ongoing drive will bring a positive change and new revolution in the food industry would pave it’s way to ensure safe, healthy, nutritios and adulteration free food will reach the consumers.
