JAMMU, Aug 10:
To expand its footprints across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) will soon be establishing state-of-the-art level infrastructure and facilities.
Nadeem Ahmad Dar, Deputy Director, SAI, STC Jammu and in-charge J&K said, “SAI is expanding its footprints and for that matter, infrastructure will soon be set up in Jammu and across the region.”
“Presently the SAI is being facilitated by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council for facilities but we will soon be having our own set up,” he added.
Facilities like youth sports hostel, administrative block, sports arenas, mess, training centres and other infrastructural set ups will be established in Jammu for which the land is being identified.
“The land has to be allocated by the Jammu and Kashmir administration and only after that the decision on setting up required infrastructure will be taken accordingly,” he said.
The Deputy Director said, “Presently, SAI in Jammu region is catering five disciplines (Wushu, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball and Handball) for which we are getting all support from the Sports Council.
“We have been planning to introduce two more disciplines for which Hockey and Kabaddi disciplines are proposed but availability of land will mature our decisions.”
“In Jammu division, at present SAI has 100 trainees including 20 from different parts of the country and they are being provided facilities under residential and day boarding schemes respectively,” the SAI officer added.
He said, “motive is to spread our footprints so that more youth get engaged with sports and avail benefits of various schemes launched by the Government of India.” (UNI)
