POONCH, June 11: Semifinals position has been cleared in the ongoing 1st Shaheed Dy SP Manjeet Singh Memorial Hockey Championship, being organized by Shaheed Manjeet Singh Volleyball Club, under the auspices of Hockey J&K at Higher Secondary School ground, here.
PK Club Poonch blanked Hiranagar Club Kathua by two goals to nil (2-0) in the first match, with Talvindere and Gurjot netting the goals in 43rd and 62nd minute of the match respectively.
In another match, Jammu Red rode on two superb goals scored by Aman to script a resounding 2-0 win over Power House Club Poonch and sealed a berth in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, in the third match, 21st Bihar thrashed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Club by six goals to nil (6-0) and entered the semifinals, while in the last match of the day, Waryam Club Poonch outclassed Jammu Blue by six goals to one (6-1) in a one-sided affair. For Waryam Club, Gurdev displayed skill, motor-ability, anticipation and sharp reflexes to score a hat-trick and gave his side a much needed 3-0 lead, Matinder Pal Singh, ML Sharma and Chani netted the other three goals. For Jammu Blue, Guneet Singh scored the solitary goal in 52nd minute of the match.
PK Club Poonch will take on Jammu Reds in the first semifinal, while Waryam Club will lock horns with 21st Bihar in the semifinal clashes tomorrow.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Mohd Tariq Khan, organising secretary, Netar Singh, Mahinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Gurdev Singh, Prem Luthra, Ved Charlie, Sanjay Misri and Daljeet Singh.
